South Carolina lawmakers help sink spending bill, cite LGBT protection amendment among the reasons

WASHINGTON — Five of the six Republicans in the S.C. congressional delegation joined with 125 GOP colleagues to sink an energy and water spending bill Thursday, irked by a provision barring the government from hiring federal contractors that discriminate against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals.
