Kazakhstan preparing new AI-powered textbooks: Minister says when they will be presented

Tengrinews.kz – Minister of Education Zhuldyz Suleimenova spoke about a new format for school textbooks. The pilot project may be presented as early as November–January.
At a government briefing, journalists spoke about parents’ complaints regarding the quality of textbooks: the lack of a single format, different sizes, and soft covers that wear out quickly.
Suleimenova acknowledged that the problem exists. According to her, the ministry is now considering a new textbook format using artificial intelligence. The pilot project is already being tested in 40 schools.

“We are now considering the possibility of using artificial intelligence to create a new textbook format. We are already testing a pilot project in 40 schools, where all our textbooks are combined on one platform,” the minister said.

The minister also spoke about work on new editions, in which numerous errors will be corrected.

“This year, the Ministry of Education carried out extensive analytical work. We identified about 700 errors. Work on new editions is now being carried out in stages together with publishing houses,” Suleimenova said.

She separately commented on the situation in Shymkent, where parents complained about the lack of new textbooks. According to the official, the necessary books have already been purchased and should be delivered to schoolchildren this week.
When asked when the new unified textbook format could be seen, Suleimenova gave preliminary dates.

“We are working on this now. I think we will show the pilot project in November–January. We are working on it together with our subordinate organization and 15 publishing houses. Perhaps we will show it to you as early as January,” the minister replied.

What about electronic gradebooks
At the briefing, Suleimenova was also asked about parents’ complaints regarding the operation of electronic gradebooks. According to her, four LMS systems are currently operating in Kazakhstan, while the choice of a specific platform falls within the competence of akimats.

“Local akimats have the right to choose one system or another themselves, so here, responsibility for its operation, the quality of its operation and personal data lies with the local executive body,” the head of the Ministry of Education said.
