Rain, hail and heat: storm warning issued across Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz — Forecasters are warning of rain and thunderstorms, stronger winds and possible hail across most of Kazakhstan on August 21. Fire danger remains high in western regions and southeastern Kazakhstan, according to Kazhydromet.

Astana — fog is expected during the night and morning hours.

Almaty — an extreme fire hazard is expected. Short-term rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the Ile-Alatau mountains (mountainous zones of Almaty's Medeu and Bostandyk districts). West and northwest winds will see gusts of 15-20 meters per second.

Shymkent — an extreme fire hazard remains in effect.

Ulytau Region — fog is expected in the north and east of the region during the night and morning. An extreme fire hazard persists. In Zhezkazgan extreme fire risk persists.

Karaganda Region — rain, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls are expected in the north and east of the region during the night and morning. Fog is forecast for the west, north, and east of the region overnight and in the morning. North and northeast winds will gust at 15-20 meters per second in the east and south during the night and morning. An extreme fire hazard persists in the west, east, and south of the region. In Karaganda, fog is expected at night and in the morning.

Atyrau Region — extreme heat of 35-38 degrees Celsius is expected during the day. Extreme fire danger persists across the region. In Atyrau — intense heat of 35-37 degrees Celsius is expected during the day. An extreme fire hazard persists.

Zhetysu Region — northwest winds are expected during the day in the Alakol Lakes area, with gusts occasionally reaching 30 meters per second or more.

Almaty Region — light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the southeast of the region, with short-term rain and thunderstorms in mountainous areas. West and northwest winds will gust at 15-20 meters per second in the south, east, and mountain districts. An extreme fire hazard persists in the west and north, with high fire risk in the east and extreme fire hazard expected in the south and central parts of the region. In Konaev, high fire danger remains in effect.

Zhetysu Region — rain and thunderstorms are expected in the mountainous districts. Northwest winds will gust at 15-20 meters per second in the east and mountain areas, reaching 23-28 meters per second near the Alakol Lakes. Abai Region — rain and thunderstorms are expected overnight, with heavy rain in the north; during the day, rain, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls are forecast for the west, north, and central parts of the region. Northwest winds will reach 15-20 meters per second in the north, east, and south overnight, and 15-20 meters per second during the day, with gusts of 23-28 meters per second in the north, south, and center. A high fire risk persists in the west, northwest, and center, while an extreme fire hazard remains in the south. In Semey rain, thunderstorms, and daytime hail are expected. Northwest winds will gust at 15-20 meters per second.

East Kazakhstan Region — rain and thunderstorms are expected, with heavy rain in the north, east, and mountain areas; hail and squalls are forecast for the afternoon. Southeast winds shifting to northwest will reach 15-20 meters per second in the west, north, and south, with daytime gusts of 23-28 meters per second. A high fire risk persists in the northwest and center, while an extreme fire hazard remains in the south. In Ust-Kamenogorsk rain, thunderstorms, and daytime hail are expected. Southeast winds shifting to northwest will gust at 15-20 meters per second.

Kyzylorda Region — light rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms are expected in the west during the day. Northeast and north winds will reach 15-20 meters per second in the west and south during the day. An extreme fire hazard persists across the region. In Kyzylorda extreme fire risk persists.

Akmola Region — rain and thunderstorms are expected in the north and east. Fog is forecast for the north, south, and east during the night and morning. Northwest winds will gust at 15-20 meters per second in the north, east, and south. Highs of 35 degrees Celsius are expected during the day. Extreme fire danger remains in place, with high fire danger persisting in the north and northwest of the region. In Uralsk scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected overnight.

North Kazakhstan Region— fog is expected in the west, north, and south of the region during the night and morning hours. Northwest winds will gust up to 15-20 meters per second in the east during the day. In Petropavlovsk, fog is expected at night and in the morning.

Turkestan Region— scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the mountainous areas during the day. A dust storm is forecast for the north of the region in the afternoon.
