Horrific crash near Almaty: police reveal details of the deaths of Indian students
Tengrinews.kz – The police department of Almaty region has released details of the horrific road accident on the highway in which students from India were killed.
According to the police, a criminal case has been registered over the traffic accident that occurred at the 86th kilometer of the Almaty–Bishkek highway.
“According to preliminary data, a 33-year-old driver of a Toyota Alphard lost control of the vehicle and allowed it to overturn. As a result of the traffic accident, the driver died at the scene from his injuries. Two passengers later died in a medical facility, and three others with various injuries were hospitalized,” the statement said.
At present, all necessary investigative actions are being carried out to establish all the circumstances of what happened.
Earlier, the Embassy of India in Astana reported that the tragedy occurred on 6 January. According to the diplomatic mission, there were five Indian citizens in the car — four students of the South Kazakhstan Medical Academy in Shymkent and one tourist. They were traveling from Shymkent to Almaty.
Two people died at the scene of the accident. Three more sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated in the intensive care unit.
