Kazakh airlines cancel flights to a number of countries
Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Transport has commented on the suspension of flights by Kazakh airlines amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
As of 9:00 a.m. on June 24, several countries have officially introduced restrictions or full closures of their airspace for civil aviation.
"These measures were taken due to the threat of weapons use, disruption of navigation systems, air defense system activity, and high risks for civilian aircraft," the Ministry of Transport said.
According to the ministry, the restrictions are in place in the following countries:
Israel – full closure of airspace;
Iran – full closure of airspace, including areas over the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman;Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon – temporary flight restrictions due to increased risk of missile and drone attacks;Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE – restrictions and flight suspensions, partial route blockages near the conflict zone.
Major international airlines have also canceled or suspended their flights in similar circumstances. According to the Ministry of Transport:Air France–KLM, United, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, and Air Canada have canceled flights to Dubai, Doha, and Riyadh.
Qatar Airways is adjusting its schedule.
Etihad has issued an official warning.
Emirates continues flights but is rerouting around the conflict zone.
As the ministry reports, Kazakh airlines, based on their own risk assessments and for safety reasons, have decided to cancel a number of flights to Dubai and Doha.
Information on canceled flights by Kazakh and foreign airlines as of June 24:
The total number of affected passengers is 1,051 on arrival and 683 on departure. In total, 1,734 passengers were impacted by the canceled flights.
"The cancellation of flights by Kazakh airlines to the Persian Gulf region is a forced and justified measure amid the sharp deterioration of the military-political situation in the region. The decisions made are in line with international practice and aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and crew," the Ministry of Transport said.
According to current legislation, all passengers of canceled and delayed flights are provided with:
hot meals,hotel accommodation,organized transfer.
By agreement with the hotel, some passengers are being granted extended stays.
"Passengers of canceled flights will be offered free rebooking or a full refund of the ticket cost. The ministry, together with airlines, continues to monitor the situation and will promptly adjust schedules if necessary," the ministry added.
