Almaty police stated that the Nauryzbai District police department is conducting an inquiry into the incident to determine the circumstances. No local residents have reported the deer to the police.
Tengrinews.kz has also reached out to the territorial inspection of the Veterinary Control and Supervision Committee in Almaty for further information.
Kazakhstan is home to two types of roe deer: the Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) and the Tianshan roe deer (Capreolus pygargus tianschanicus). Both subspecies are considered game animals in the country. In the Almaty Nature Reserve, the Siberian roe deer is classified as a common species, primarily inhabiting deciduous forests. It is possible that the deer spotted in the city wandered in from a nearby national park.
Previously, inspectors from the Alakol State Nature Reserve rescued a Siberian roe deer after finding it stranded on the ice.
