Newsletter, February 2025

Hi all,

The Tempest World is preparing a new sailing season. We are looking forward to the Worlds 2025, which will take place in the Netherlands on the Markermeer from 16th to 22th August. The hosting club is again the WSV Hoorn. They have a lot of experience with the organisation of big regattas, many of us remember the Worlds in 2010, the last championship in the Netherlands.

We wanted to repeat it in 2020, but Corona stopped us. At the time the event was cancelled (I remember it was in May) we had already more than 25 boats registered, most of it from Germany and England. Now we try again, The Tempest Class has a long history of sailing in the Netherlands where we once won the qulification for becoming a Olympic Class. This year I hope that we will see about 30 boats from six countries on the water (GER, GBR, FRA, USA, SUI, AUT). If we can get some Dutch teams we will have seven nations.
Camping and parking spaces are close (see the NOR), accomodation should be booked early, we are in the main season. We hope to find sponsors, so that we can offer a bit more social program than the one evening which is included in the entrance fee. Hoorn is a town with about 70.000 inhabitants and also with some good restaurants near the harbour. The NOR are already published (look at our website tempestclass.com).

For 2026 we have already decided to hold our Worlds in October in Cannes (FRA), when we have less tourists than in summer, but temperatures on the Cote d´azur should be agreeable. The exact date will be announced soon. We will discuss where to go in the following years. One option could be Austria, also Lake Garda or England are possibilities.

The boat market is almost empty from good used boats. Last year GER-1102 was sold from Germany to France and AUT-1141 from Austria to Tegernsee. Our classboats are available, the GER-1151 is already booked for Hoorn (US-Team from California). The fees remain unchanged. Many thanks to Dominik for the maintenance of the boats (GER-1151 and AUT-1141). New boats are of course available at Maders. Some older hulls are still for sale (see list on tempestclass.com).

The normal regatta program 2025 starts as usual with the Eurocup in St. Raphael. Other highlights will be for instance Lake Garda (mid of May) and a special event on the Rhein (near Mainz) in June (already booked out because of the limit of boats). The German Open will take place in Waging, Austrian Nationals on Traunsee, Swiss Nationals on Bodensee (full calendar on our website).

Hope to see many of you soon on the water,
best regards.

Manfred, President ITA
