Kazakhstan may introduce a childlessness tax. What the Ministry of Finance says

0

Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Finance has commented on reports about the introduction of a childlessness tax in Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Kazakhstani media reported that Mazhilis deputy Bolat Kerimbek had proposed introducing such a tax. However, the MP denied this information.

"We met with residents of Taldykorgan, where we discussed the issue of late marriages. It was mentioned that similar taxes existed in Italy and Bulgaria in the past. This is a very important issue that should be considered in the context of the demographic situation. When people marry late, questions arise about raising children and ensuring their future. We discussed it in this context, but some media distorted my words, claiming that I had proposed introducing such a tax," Kerimbek told a Tengrinews.kz correspondent in the Mazhilis on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, we reached out to the Ministry of Finance to find out whether such a tax could be introduced in Kazakhstan. The ministry responded that they could consider such a proposal if it were officially submitted.

"The proposal to introduce a 'childlessness tax' has not been officially submitted to the ministry. However, if it is received in accordance with the established legislative procedure, it will be reviewed within the scope of our competence," the Ministry of Finance stated in an official response to our editorial inquiry.

It should be noted that, in general, changes to tax legislation in Kazakhstan are introduced by the Ministry of National Economy.
