An unknown disease has claimed the lives of 15 people in India

Tengrinews.kz - At least 15 people have died from an unknown illness in India, according to the Hindustan Times.

According to the publication, between September 3 and 10, at least 10 people, including children, died from an unknown disease in Lakhpat, Kutch district, Gujarat. An additional five deaths have been confirmed since then. Authorities have not yet been able to determine the cause of the illness.

A representative from the Kutch district authorities stated that tests so far have ruled out the possibility of H1N1 flu, swine flu, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, malaria, and dengue fever. The representative also emphasized that the unknown fever is not likely to be related to infectious diseases.

Samples taken from those who died from the illness have been sent for analysis to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, Maharashtra. Results are expected in the coming days.

The outbreak of the unknown illness coincides with heavy rains and flooding in the affected region. The Kutch district received approximately 890 millimeters of precipitation, which is 184 percent above the norm.
