Bouncing and trampolining are back... and not just for kids !
There comes a time when you just have to clean out your shed/garage as you can hardly get into it as you just have too many things and you have even forgotten what you have in there !
I recently started clearing out my shed, with several trips to the tip, and at the back of my shed I discovered my mini-trampoline, bought for me as a birthday present many years ago. I had forgotten that I had it, but I thought I would give bouncing on the trampoline a try, and found that I really like it and it is in fact good for you !
A trampolining or rebounding workout, as it is called, is a wonderful exercise particularly for seniors as it is of low impact and so excellent for the knees, hips and ankles. It is also a fun cardio exercise that improves the blood flow, builds endurance and easy to do every day. It is said that just 10 minutes daily, although it may seem it that doesn’t seem very long, is enough as 10 minutes on a mini trampoline is equivqlent to 30 minutes running !
Rebounders is another name for mini trampolines, and they have apparently become very popular particularly for seniors, who also find that bouncing not only improves your physival health but also your mental state. Trampolining or bouncing can make you smile, some people sit on the trampoline and bounce, it is all good. They say that they feel less stressed and some seniors bounce together or with their grand children ! A shared experiece, giving a social aspect to the activity too.
Trampolining offers an opportunity to release emotions, whilst improving your balance and so reduce the risk of falling, giving people confidence and a better quality of life. It is also said that trampolining helps your immune system by increasing the lymphatic flow.
Who would have thought that finding a trampoline at the back of my shed would in fact change my sporting routine. It is so easy on the body, makes one feel happy and smiley and one can certainly find 10 minutes a day to practice this low impact, gentle bouncing – there seems to be nothing negative in tampolining – perhaps in the beginning you just need to be careful not to fall off the rebounder, but you soon get used to it !
« Bouncing is back », if indeed it ever went away, and not just for kids !
