NY prosecutors want to combine Harvey Weinstein’s criminal cases into a single trial

Prosecutors are asking a Manhattan judge to consolidate the two sex crime cases that disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein faces in New York into a single trial. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office argue in new court filings that the cases have significant overlap. Weinstein’s lawyers in their own legal filings argue the cases should remain separate. A judge is expected to consider the arguments at a hearing later this month. Trial on hold for New Jersey man charged in knife attack that injured Salman Rushdie

The attempted murder trial of the man charged with injuring author Salman Rushdie in a 2022 knife attack in New York has been put on hold. An appellate judge in Rochester issued a stay late Friday halting proceedings until the court considers a defense request to move the trial. A former U.S. Army soldier made a surprise sentencing-day request to receive the maximum 40-year prison sentence for trying to help the Islamic State group kill American troops. Pilot in deadly California plane crash didn't have takeoff clearance, airport official says

An airport official says that the pilot in a Southern California plane crash that killed all five people aboard did not have clearance to take off. Catalina Airport's general manager told the Orange County Register Thursday that the airport does not allow flights after sunset because it's not equipped for nighttime operations. Massachusetts pharmacist gets up to 15 years in prison for meningitis outbreak deaths

A Massachusetts pharmacist has been sentenced in Michigan to 7 1/2 to 15 years in prison for his role in a 2012 national meningitis outbreak that killed dozens of people. Neither Glenn Chin nor relatives of the Michigan victims made statements at his sentencing Friday in Howell, northwest of Detroit. The 56-year-old pleaded no contest in August to involuntary manslaughter in the 11 Michigan deaths. Pilot's wife safely lands plane in California during medical emergency

Authorities said the wife of the pilot of a plane landed the aircraft safely in California after he suffered a medical emergency. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that real estate broker Eliot Alper was flying a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 90 with his wife, Yvonne Kinane-Wells, from Henderson, Nevada, to Monterey, California, on Oct. 4 when he was incapacitated because of a medical emergency.
