Staggering Cost of First Week of Trump's War in Iran Revealed in Congress (Report)

Donald Trump‘s military action in Iran carries a heavy price tag.

Multiple news organizations are reporting that Congress was briefed by Pentagon officials on Tuesday (March 10) regarding how much money was spent in the first six days of fighting after the president launched “Operation Epic Fury” on February 28.

The Associated Press, NBC News and The New York Times reported the figure to be over $11.3 billion.

AP noted that part of that figure was an estimated $5 billion spent on munitions.

NBC contacted the Pentagon for comment, and a spokesperson issued the following statement: “We do not comment on closed-door discussions or matters. Regarding the cost of Operation Epic Fury, we won’t know the cost until the mission is complete.”

However, Sen. Chris Coons told the outlet that he thought the estimate was on the low end of how much was really spent.

“I expect that the current total operating number is significantly above that,” he said, adding, “If all you’re looking at is the replacement cost for the munitions used, it’s already well beyond $10 billion.”

The war in Iran, which Trump says is somehow both “very complete” and just beginning, has also resulted in the deaths of multiple U.S. service members.

Americans and others across the globe might also be paying more as the price of oil surges due to conflict in the Middle East. The president had a blunt response for anyone concerned about rising costs.
