This New G-Shock Was Built for the Dakar Rally

The Dakar Rally is one of the most brutal endurance races on the planet, pushing vehicles and drivers through thousands of miles of punishing desert terrain. Now CasioG-Shock is celebrating that legendary event with a new limited-edition Mudmaster inspired by Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body, one of the rally’s most successful competitors. Built on the rugged Master of G Mudmaster platform, the watch combines carbon-reinforced construction, solar power, and a full suite of outdoor sensors—making it a fitting tribute to one of the toughest off-road races in motorsports.

The dial is accented with red, blue, and yellow derived from the navigation system in the Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body Dakar Rally vehicle. In the cockpit the colors help render vehicle information and driving conditions. On the watch they are deployed on the indicators of the two inset dials and the seconds hand to aid quick time telling as well as low-light legibility, while also offering some visual contrast to the black dial.

The urethane band is textured to evoke desert sand dunes and the metal buckle is finished in black. The band loop, offers a departure from the mostly stealthy vibe with a pop of gold color meant to symbolize the full moon floating in the night sky. The loop is also engraved with the Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body logo.

Shock, dust, mud, and vibration resistant, the Mudmaster is powered by Casio’s Tough Solar technology. So, there’s no need for regular battery changes. Time keeping is automatically synced to an atomic clock when in range of any of six radio control towers world wide. Along with world time for 38 time zones, a 1/100-second stopwatch, five daily alarms, a sunrise-sunset indicator, and an LED light, this G-Shock offers a digital compass, an altimeter, a barometer, a thermometer, and is water resistant to 200 meters.
