This Hollywood Star Got Into A Plane Crash 11 Years Ago Today

On March 5, 2015, Hollywood superstar Harrison Ford crash-landed his vintage two-seater plane on a gold course in California.

The incident made global news and, while nobody was hurt in the accident, felt like a scene pulled straight from one of Ford's classic action movies. Interestingly, it wasn't the first time the actor had been involved in a dangerous crash.

Harrison Ford's 2015 Vintage Plane Cash: What Happened?

According to reports from Simple Flying, Ford's plane took off from Santa Monica Airport in California, before crashing unexpectedly in Penmar Golf Course just 1.6 kilometers away.

After losing control of the aircraft, Ford made the quick decision to crash his plane on the empty golf course rather than on busy land, as his trajectory was suggesting he would have. The actor was immediately taken to the hospital in a stretcher.

CBS News broadcasted Ford's distress call, in which he cited "engine failfure" as the reason for the vehicle's crash. "Witnesses say Ford appeared to navigate away from homes before crash-landing," the report claims.

Thankfully, Ford didn't sustain any life-threatening injuries in the accident, but suffered minor head trauma and a broken arm.

2015 Wasn't Ford's First (Or Last) Airplane Accident

Ford has been privately flying planes since the '90s, after originally taking lessons thirty years prior but having to quit for financial reasons. Since obtaining his license, however, Ford has been in a number of dangerous incidents.

In 1999, Ford crashed a helicopter while practicing emergency landings as part of his training. Neither he nor the instructor were injured, but the vehicle was severely damaged in the crash.

In 2000, Ford was piloting an aircraft that got blown off the runway in Nebraska, once again damaging the plane but leaving the actor unharmed.

In 2017, the actor landed a plane on a taxiway at John Wayne Airport in California, and "narrowly missed hitting an American Airlines Boeing 737 with over 100 passengers". The actor publicly apologized and was mandated to undergo further emergency training.
