On a per-share basis, the San Juan Capistrano, California-based company said it had profit of $1.61. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.82 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.75 per share.

The provider of nursing and rehabilitative care services posted revenue of $1.36 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.37 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $344 million, or $5.84 per share. Revenue was reported as $5.06 billion.

Ensign Group expects full-year earnings to be $7.41 to $7.61 per share, with revenue in the range of $5.77 billion to $5.84 billion.
