Tommaso Cioni, Nancy Guthrie's Son-in-Law, Was Called a 'Great Manifester'

0

Annie Guthrie, Nancy Guthrie's daughter, is married to Tommaso Cioni, and she once described him as a "great manifester" and poet.

Cioni features prominently on Annie's Facebook page, where she posted a photo showing him standing in a snowy landscape. It's 6 years old, but is still listed among her page highlights. Another photo from 2021 shows him holding a handful of berries on a hike. He has worked as a biology teacher and played in a Tucson band, according to posts online.

Much of Annie's page focuses on her writing and poetry, which is a discipline she shares with her husband.

Journalist Ashleigh Banfield is alleging that Cioni may be a suspect or person of interest in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. He is Nancy Guthrie's son-in-law and Savannah Guthrie's brother-in-law. Nancy is Savannah's mom; the 84-year-old Guthrie family matriarch disappeared on January 31 from her home in Tucson. Banfield is a former network broadcaster with a true crime podcast.

Tommaso Cioni Is Under Growing Scrutiny as the Nancy Guthrie Mystery Explodes Online

Banfield's claim about Tommaso Cioni was subsequently reported by outlets like TMZ, but there has been no confirmation from authorities that he is being looked at as a suspect in the case. In a news conference on February 3, the Pima County Sheriff was vague about most aspects of the mysterious case.

For example, when asked whether there was a ransom note, as TMZ is also reporting, he wouldn't say (authorities later posted that they are looking into "possible ransom note(s).") Asked whether Nancy's disappearance was random or targeted, Sheriff Chris Nanos said authorities don't know. TMZ reported that the alleged ransom note demands millions of dollars in Bitcoin.

US Weekly previously reported that Annie Guthrie, who lives near Nancy, was the last known person to see Nancy Guthrie, taking her home after dinner hours before Guthrie disappeared. The sheriff said in the press conference that family he didn't name had dropped Nancy off around 9:30 p.m. She was reported missing when she didn't show up for church the next day.

According to TMZ, it's unclear whether Cioni was present at the final dinner with Annie. TMZ is also reporting that Annie's car was towed, but authorities have not confirmed that either. Neither Cioni nor Annie Guthrie has been accused of wrongdoing by authorities in connection with the disappearance, which is also being investigated by the FBI.

Annie Guthrie, a Poet, Described Tommaso Cioni as Her Husband & Teacher in an Interview

Annie Guthrie confirmed that Tommaso Cioni is her husband in an interview with Women’s Quarterly Conversation, which described Annie Guthrie as “a writer and jeweler from Tucson. She is the Marketing Director at the University of Arizona Poetry Center, where she recently curated a national symposium, Poetry off the Page, featuring poets who work in hybrid, multi-media forms and in other art forms such as film, theater, book arts and dance.”

“My husband Tommaso Cioni is my greatest teacher. He is a great manifester; he writes poetry with his lifestyle,” she added. He is 50 years old, according to public records.

Tommaso Cioni is listed as playing bass and vocals for a Tucson band called ReverbNation. "Quickly, the newly formed band began work on a number of pieces (Walter) Gonçalves started composing before their meeting. The songs were grungier compared to the band’s repertory in its debut, Life:Love :: Love: Murder," an online bio for that band reads. "Also, as would follow for the rest of its trajectory, the band began playing shows locally in Tucson and at times in Phoenix and Flagstaff with mostly local but some national acts (The Prids, Liars, A Place to Bury Strangers)." The band members met in 2007 through newspaper and online ads, the bio says.

A Facebook post also says that Cioni has worked as a teacher. It reads, "Mr. Tommaso Cioni, 6th grade & AP Biology." The post quotes him as describing his love for nature and cooking, explaining he still forages for mushrooms in Italy. He described himself, somewhat jokingly, as a "rock star." He also wrote that he writes poetry in Italian and traveled to Costa Rica.

"This is my fifth year teaching at BASIS Oro Valley," the post quotes him as saying. "I love the fact that I am able to share my passion for learning with my students. Since I teach 6th grade and AP Biology, I love seeing them growing from pre-teens to young adults, and see them express their potential."

A photo on Nancy Guthrie's Facebook page shows Cioni and Annie wearing matching pajamas with Nancy, Savannah Guthrie, Savannah's husband, and their kids. Over the years, both Annie and Savannah have described their close relationship. They also have a brother named Camron Guthrie, who is a retired F-16 pilot.

Annie Guthrie's Facebook page is filled with family photos and musings about her poetry. It contains many photos showing her with Cioni.

"The quality of our presence in the world feeds all our dreams and intentions, and all our creative works. An oracular methodology reviews principles of integrated attention and the contemplative life as art-bearing practices," she wrote on Facebook.

Annie and Cioni appear to spend time in Italy and have a child together. Some photos show Annie and Tommaso in Italy.

In June 2021, she wrote, "Happy birthday to my one and only Cioni."

Annie also shared photos showing her mom, including one showing Nancy with her son. "My beloved Momma our bright North Star. Happiest Mother’s Day," she wrote.

"We really didn’t mean to be so puffy and matchy," she wrote with a Facebook photo showing her and Cioni wearing matching winter jackets. "Fireworks," she wrote with another photo showing her and Cioni drinking wine.

For her part, Nancy Guthrie was active on Facebook as recently as January 27.
