Australia To Allocate $50 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan

0

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced that her government will provide 50 million dollars in new humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to support vulnerable communities nationwide.

She stated on Tuesday, February 3 that the funding aims to help Afghan families cope with the ongoing humanitarian and economic crisis affecting livelihoods across both urban and rural areas.

Wong emphasized the assistance will strongly focus on supporting women and girls while also strengthening food security programs for millions facing hunger during harsh winter conditions.

According to the minister, aid distribution will occur through trusted international humanitarian organizations to guarantee transparency and ensure support directly reaches the most vulnerable households nationwide.

With this newly announced package, Australia’s total humanitarian contributions to Afghanistan since Kabul’s fall in 2021 have now reached approximately 310 million dollars overall supporting relief operations.

Afghanistan has experienced severe economic decline, recurring droughts, and shrinking international assistance in recent years, leaving millions struggling with unemployment, poverty, and rising food insecurity nationwide.

United Nations agencies and relief groups estimate nearly twenty-two million people currently need urgent humanitarian assistance across Afghanistan as families continue facing displacement and limited basic services.

Australia’s new commitment comes as humanitarian organizations warn funding shortages still threaten aid delivery and call for sustained global cooperation to prevent worsening conditions for vulnerable Afghans.
