Super Bowl LX lights up San Jose night

0

Super Bowl LX week kicked off with 1,000 drones lighting up the sky over downtown San Jose. For 12 minutes over Discovery Meadow, Monday night was something beyond fireworks, as choreographed lights danced in the dark.

The Big Game Drone show represented the culture and communities of the South Bay — San Jose Taiko, Calpulli Tonalehqueh Aztec Dancers, and track and field Olympic medalists Tommie Smith and John Carlos, the former San Jose State University students who famously raised their fists on the Mexico City podium in 1968 in support of the Black power movement.

The free show, sponsored by the city and the San Jose Sports Authority, gets a replay. At 10:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, the drones will again take to the skies above the park near the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose. Kick off for the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, Super Bowl 60, is at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium.
