Don Lemon Released Without Bail After First Court Appearance in LA

Don Lemon has been released without bail.

The 59-year-old journalist made his first court appearance on Los Angeles on Friday (January 30) following his recent arrest connected to a protest earlier this month in Minn.

He didn’t stay behind bars for long, as a judge released him without bail, allowing him to walk free as the case moves forward, per TMZ.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was present outside court and publicly voiced her support for Don, emphasizing the importance of protecting journalists. She drew a clear distinction between reporters covering demonstrations and protesters themselves, urging people not to lump everyone together.

The mayor also warned that Don‘s situation should concern the entire press community.

His next court date is set for February 9. His husband, Tim Malone, attended the hearing to support him, but declined to comment.

The former CNN host was charged with allegedly violating a federal law related to interfering with worship during an anti-ICE protest at Cities Church in Minneapolis on January 18.

Don has said he had no affiliation to the protestors and was acting as an independent journalist.
