Marvel's Ambitious Answer to 'The Studio' Streams Sooner Than You Think

0

Back in 2013, in Iron Man 3, the biggest twist of the movie was that the villain known as the Mandarin was really a washed-up actor named Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley. So yes, there are actors in the MCU, and yes, there are movies about superheroes in the MCU. Enter Simon Williams (Yahya Adbul-Mateen II), a man who wants to be an actor, but has secret superpowers and is trying to start in a movie called Wonder Man, which would also star Trevor Slattery.

Got all that? If so, then you should be pumped about Wonder Man, which, with its meta-commentary on superhero narratives, is possibly poised to be the MCU's version of The Studio. Here's what to know about Wonder Man, including its trailer, streaming time, episode count, and release date.

Wonder Man Release Date

Wonder Man is set to release all eight of its episodes on Disney+ on January 27. Wonder Man is a miniseries, and as such, will likely not set up a second season. That said, because there are some deep Marvel cuts in the movie, and it's a sideways sequel to Iron Man 3, there's every reason to believe that the events of this show will shape the future of the MCU in ways possibly great and small.

Wonder Man Streaming Time

The whole of WonderMan, all eight episodes, will hit Disney+ on Tuesday evening, at 6 p.m. Pacific Time and 9 p.m. Eastern Time. Unlike some Disney+ releases, this series won't be streaming at Midnight, the day it comes out. So, if you're looking to get on Disney+ early in the morning to watch Wonder Man, you'll have to wait until Tuesday night.

Wonder Man Trailer and Plot

As the trailer reveals, the show will focus on Simon's attempt to land the lead in a film called "Wonder Man," which, we're meant to understand, is a remake without the Marvel world. This idea touches on some of the comic book backstory for Wonder Man, but clearly, the show is taking things in a bigger, more comedic direction.

This may not be Marvel's safest bet, or its most action-packed. But, with this miniseries, the MCU is offering us something heartfelt, quirky, and entirely new.

Wonder Man streams on Disney+ starting on January 27.
