Indienne collection by Zoffany
Dezeen Showroom: English brand Zoffany journeyed through Indian heritage for its Indienne collection of fabrics and wallpapers, based on archival designs.
The Indienne collection features designs with a connection to Indian motifs and imagery, and was created with input from both contemporary artists and traditional craftspeople to give it a rich and complex aesthetic.
Among the historical designs are the intricate Mughal Menagerie, which is based on a 19th-century Kalamkari block print in Zoffany's archive, and Artisan Palampore, with its evolution of a botanically themed and hand-painted 17th-century fragment.
Designs by contemporary artists include Charlie Calder-Potts' Lost Lands and Melissa White's Peacock Garden, both murals conjuring utopian landscapes rich in flora and fauna.
A mix of traditional and digital printing methods were used to create the collection, which numbers 16 fabrics and 13 wallpapers.
"This collection celebrates the astonishing creativity of the global artists and makers from our archive while collaborating with the contemporary makers, artists and muralists of today," said Zoffany lead designer Peter Gomez.
"It is about bringing the archive to life — making it relevant, shared and enjoyed in homes for generations to come."
