Iconic Romcom With 94% Approval Rating Leaving Netflix
Netflix's streaming library is constantly evolving, with dozens of movies and television shows exiting and joining the platform every month. When the calendar turns to February next weekend, plenty of changes will kick in.
The list of movies leaving Netflix features several high-profile titles, including Groundhog Day, the 1993 fantasy and romantic comedy flick starring Bill Murray. Fans have less than a week to watch the beloved movie, which has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
When is 'Groundhog Day' leaving Netflix?
According to What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore, Groundhog Day will be available on Netflix until February 1, when it will exit the platform.
Ironically, Groundhog Day will disappear from Netflix one day before the actual Groundhog Day, the annual tradition involving Punxsutawney Phil and his famous shadow.
What is the plot of 'Groundhog Day'?
The February 2 Groundhog Day tradition serves as the backbone of the plot of Groundhog Day, with Murray's character reluctantly being sent to cover the event and getting stuck in a time loop, repeating the day continuously until he realizes the only way out is to remain in Punxsutawney and fall in love with his producer Rita Hanson (Andie McDowell).
Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray, Angela Paton, Marita Geraghty, Rick Ducommon, Rick Overton and Robin Duke also have prominent roles in the film, which earned just over $71 million at the box office.
Harold Ramis and Danny Rubin co-wrote the screenplay, with Ramis directing the project.
Where else can you watch 'Groundhog Day'?
If you're a Groundhog Day fan, don't worry. You still have multiple ways to access the movie outside of Netflix.
You can currently watch Groundhog Day on Sling TV, Philo and YouTube TV with a subscription, or purchase it on YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies or Fandango at Home for $3.99.
