Death toll rises to 6 in fire at a shopping plaza in the Pakistani city of Karachi
Firefighters in Karachi have extinguished a blaze at a multistory shopping plaza that erupted overnight, killing six people, including a firefighter. The fire broke out late Saturday at Gul Plaza, spreading rapidly through shops stocked with cosmetics, garments and plastic goods. The fire has been extinguished, and now a search is underway for dozens of missing people, according to Sindh chief minister, Murad Ali Shah. So far, five bodies have been recovered, according to the emergency services. The cause of the fire is not immediately known. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed sorrow over the deaths and ordered authorities to prevent further losses.
