'Mutual Obsession:' Margot Robbie Had Jacob Elordi 'Enamored' Filming Provocative New Movie

0

If you consider yourself to be a big fan of romance movies, the highly anticipated upcoming release of Wuthering Heights may be one release date to circle on the calendar. The film, partly inspired by Emily Brontë's 1847 novel of the same name, is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 13, 2026, and has already generated tremendous interest thanks to an intense, provocative storyline and graphic scenes. Only adding to the fan excitement is the fact that Wuthering Heights stars two extremely popular stars in Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. While Robbie and Elordi's on-screen chemistry is already receiving strong reviews, it sounds as though that on-screen bond was also on display behind the camera.

Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, has been behind several successful, eye-opening films, including Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Fennell has showcased an ability to create scenes that certainly leave audiences talking. Based on early returns from official screenings, the upcoming release may reset the romance bar, with Robbie and Elordi showcasing intense on-screen chemistry.

As Cinema Blend highlighted, early reports signal that Wuthering Heights will be Fennell's "most sexually charged adaptation so far" and the "most sexually charged movie" of her directing career. Not surprisingly, Robbie and Elordi's recent comments appear to prove just how legitimate the celebrities' connection was.

The duo sat down with Fandango to discuss Wuthering Heights and made several notable comments, specifically about how that on-screen chemistry affected them off-screen. Elordi explained the "mutual obsession" he shared with Robbie while raving about the 35-year-old actress, which Cinema Blend detailed.

"We have a mutual obsession," Elordi said of Robbie. "I think the thing is, regardless of plot or screenplay, if you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you're going to make sure you're within 5 to 10 meters at all times. Watching how she drinks tea, how she eats her food, how she does it. When is it going to slip? When is the thing going to come undone. And, it never comes undone."

Wuthering Heights release, cast and other details:

  • Wuthering Heights releases in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.
  • Stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.
  • The movie is loosely inspired by Emily Brontë's 1847 novel of the same name.
  • Other cast members include -
Hong Chau as Nelly Dean Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton Martin Clunes as Mr. Earnshaw Ewan Mitchell as Joseph

"She's just like an elite actor and she's producing the movie, you know? So, I don't know how somebody has the skill and the wisdom to do that as a performer and to give the performance that she gave, but I was enamored by her."

Elordi's praise of how "enamored" he was by Robbie was significant, and Robbie explained her own intense feelings about it.

To both of their credit, Robbie was an open book about the connection with her co-star on Wuthering Heights, just as Elordi was. During the interview, she admitted to being "so codependent" with her castmates, revealing she developed that "quite quickly with Jacob." The chemistry worked so well, apparently, that Robbie began knowing where Elordi was during her scenes in the film that he wasn't in, and felt a bit off when she couldn't find him.

"I remember on day one I was like, 'Oh, he's right there.' And then an hour later, I'm like, 'Oh, he's over there.' And then on the third day, I remember I found myself starting to look around to see where he was," Robbie explained. "Obviously, he’s going to be somewhere close by. Where is he right now? Because he's not in a corner of a room watching me right now. And then, he wasn't. And I was really unnerved, and I felt quite lost like a kid without their blanket or something."

Robbie and Elordi unquestionably dove headfirst into ensuring their intense romance in the film didn't leave audiences questioning its legitimacy. So much so, that Robbie explained it got to the point where if the duo weren't filming together, they were either talking about or thinking about one another.

"If we're not together in a scene, we're talking about each other or thinking about each other," Robbie said. "It becomes very focused on each other in every single thing that they do ... It's kind of like if all I knew that I was thinking about Heathcliff, I was doing my job in every scene."

It's an impressive display of two high-level stars, ensuring their on-screen performances give fans a "real-deal" feeling. And given the magnitude to which Robbie and Elordi took it, it's fair to assume that the "romance" and even the intense physical aspect on-screen of Wuthering Heights will leave most viewers bought in. For a movie of this level of intensity and graphic nature, the co-stars' ability to achieve it is incredibly important.
