What Type of Surfer Are You? (Poll)

0

A recent Instagram video by a group of comedic local surfers in North County San Diego breached a very poignant question, what type of surfer are you?

The video was a funny take on the dichotomy between those who are prepared and those who are, well, sort of disheveled. Laughs aside, it raises some good questions of which we'll dive into below. But first, take a look for yourself and see who you resonate with...

Personally, I'm on the prepared side of things: tons of wax, extra wetsuit, more than one board in the car, extra nylon leash strings, extra leash, plenty of weed, and typically a Yeti filled with coffee. Call me what you will, but I prefer to be over-prepared.

On the other side of things is my friend, let's just call him "J", he's been known to use a sock for toilet paper and refuses to buy dog poop bags. He prefers to take them from the city dog parks and justifies it by saying, "I pay my taxes". In his defense, I've never seen him forget his fins.

Beyond your personal preferences of preparation, there's plenty of other types we can explore within surfing. One big one is, what type of pro surfer do you prefer?

Are you drawn to the free-spirited types like Mikey February, Torren Martyn, Bryce Young, or Coco Ho? Or are you more of a hard-charging fan of competitive alphas like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, John John Florence, Yago Dora, Caity Simmers?

Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer. It all comes down to personal preference and funny enough, opposites often attract. In addition to "J", one of my other best friends, who has long worked in the industry, is swimming in an abundance of gear and boards but he just doesn't give a damn. I don't think I've ever seen him have a fin screw for any of his 6 or so longboards. He simply rips off a piece of cardboard from a Sex Wax box and shoves it into the fin box and then jams the fin into place and voila, it works just fine.
