Bears LB T.J. Edwards carted off field with ankle injury

Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards was carted off the field and had his left leg put in an aircast after suffering a non-contact ankle injury about four minutes into the second quarter Saturday night.

Edwards was writhing in pain after collapsing on the field away from the play, which was an incomplete pass by Jordan Love as he was hit by Bears defensive end Austin Booker.

Edwards was ruled out minutes later from Saturday night’s Round 1 playoff game against the rival Packers at Soldier Field. He was replaced by linebacker D'Marco Jackson, who won NFC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this year.

Edwards' teammates urgently waved trainers over to him. When Edwards was eventually helped onto the back of a cart, safety Jaquan Brisker screamed in frustration.

Edwards has been one of the Bears’ most steady contributors — when healthy. He returned an interception for a touchdown on the first play of the Bears’ Week 17 loss at the 49ers.
