Snubbed by Amorim: 'Deeply frustrated' Man United star finally makes winter transfer decision

0

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly made a decision about his future.

According to The Sun, Mainoo does not want to quit Man Utd and will try to revive career despite bleak year under manager Ruben Amorim.

It has been a frustrating campaign for Mainoo, who has yet to make a single Premier League start this season.

His league involvement has been limited to just 212 minutes across 11 appearances, underlining how far he has fallen down the pecking order.

That struggle stands in stark contrast to the last two seasons, when Mainoo enjoyed a sensational breakthrough under former manager Erik ten Hag.

The academy graduate quickly became a first-team regular and capped his rise by playing a key role in England’s Euro 2024 success.

It was reported last month that Mainoo is “deeply frustrated“, but it seems that he has taken on the challenge of proving himself at Old Trafford.

Former captain Roy Keane and head coach Amorim have both encouraged the youngster to block out the noise and battle for his place rather than seek an easy exit.

There is little debate that Mainoo deserves more opportunities, but Amorim has clearly identified Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as his preferred midfield pairing.

In his favoured 3-4-2-1 system, the head coach can only field two midfielders.

Casemiro anchors the midfield as the number six, while Fernandes has been deployed deeper to dictate play and thread incisive passes from central areas.

Amorim also feels Mainoo is not a natural holding midfielder, citing concerns over his positional discipline.

The England international is far more comfortable as a number eight, combining defensive responsibility with progressive ball-carrying.

Technically gifted and tactically intelligent, Mainoo already boasts an impressive catalogue of goals at senior level.

His ability to escape the press, glide past opponents with subtle body feints and retain control under pressure highlights a midfield profile United arguably lack.
