Report hints that Chelsea could rival Arsenal for wonderkid compared to Lionel Messi
Chelsea could reportedly be a name to watch in the race for the transfer of Greek wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas, who has also been linked with Arsenal.
A report from the Daily Mirror has suggested that the Blues would make sense as suitors for the highly-rated 18-year-old due to their policy of recruiting the best young players from around the world.
Karetsas currently plays for Genk, and the Mirror state that he came close to joining Arsenal for £38m in the summer.
It seems links with Chelsea are not yet as concrete, and it’s slightly more speculation on their part that the west London giants might look at the youngster, who has been compared to Lionel Messi, once they begin life under their next manager.
Who is Konstantinos Karetsas, the Greek teenager linked with Chelsea and Arsenal?
Karetsas is an 18-year-old attacking midfielder or winger who is currently on the books at Belgian club Genk, having also had a spell at Anderlecht’s academy earlier in his career.
This highly-rated teenage talent was born in Belgium but has Greek parents and has chosen to represent Greece at international level, already winning nine senior caps and scoring three goals.
Karetsas has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent times, becoming Greece’s all-time youngest scorer when he scored against Scotland at the age of just 17 years and 124 days.
Other big clubs such as Bayern Munich, Napoli and Manchester United are all understood to be monitoring him closely, sources recently told CaughtOffside.
Chelsea were also one of the names mentioned to us, even if it doesn’t exactly seem like the Mirror are confirming this interest for the moment.
Overall, though, it seems like only a matter of time before Karetsas is snapped up by a top club as he looks like a player with a big future in the game.
