Kansas Abortions Increase 186% Under Democrat Governor Laura Kelly

0

After withholding the data from public view for nearly the entire year, Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) quietly posted Kansas’ 2024 abortion statistics in the final hours of 2025.

Kansans for Life issued the following statement:

“By waiting until the final hours of the year to release Kansas’ 2024 abortion statistics, Governor Laura Kelly has made it clear she hoped these numbers would go unnoticed. Kansans should ask why such critical public health data was withheld for so long, especially the shocking increase in abortions performed on minor girls.

The continued rise in abortions in Kansas exposes a troubling reality: when informed consent laws and basic safety standards are stripped away, women and girls are left vulnerable to a predatory abortion industry.

Kansans for Life and its statewide membership will be pursuing every legal option to restore some form of informed consent protections for women in 2026 and continue to sound the alarms about parental consent laws being potentially ignored.”

Kansans for Life will release a more detailed analysis of these abortion statistics in the coming days. Below is an initial review:

  • 186.5% increase in the number of abortions performed in Kansas since 2019
  • 46.81% increase in the number of abortions performed on minor girls
  • 10.27% increase in the number of chemical pill abortions

According to the report, there were 54 abortions performed daily in Kansas in 2024. Each of these statistics tells a tragic story — a woman sold the lie that abortion is her only choice by an industry eager to profit off her.

In 2024, Kansas recorded increases in the following:

Abortions performed on minor girls — Kansas continues to see troubling numbers of abortions performed on girls under the age of 18, raising concerns about coercion and parental knowledge. These concerns have been heightened by a lawsuit filed by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office alleging that abortionists helped transport minors across state lines to Kansas for abortions without parental consent.

Overall number of abortions — Immediately following the 2019 Hodes & Nauser v. Schmidt ruling, KFL predicted significant increases in abortion numbers. The ruling ushered in a new legal framework in whichbroadly supported, commonsense limits on the abortion industry became vulnerable to any legal challenge. Under this framework, two laws have already been struck by our state courts, and more are expected, paving the way for an unregulated abortion industry in Kansas.

Use of dangerous abortion chemicals — For years, the number of chemical abortions in Kansas has been higher than the national average. Unlike surgical abortions, in a chemical abortion the burden is on women to complete their own abortions at home. These dangerous do-it-yourself abortions increase the abortion industry’s profits but not the health and safety of women.
