Jeremy Renner Talks 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 4 Finale Death (Spoilers)

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the Mayor of Kingstown season four finale!

Jeremy Renner is opening up about that death in the season finale of Mayor of Kingstown.

The 54-year-old star and executive producer’s Paramount+ drama wrapped up it’s fourth season on Sunday (December 28), with the episode, “Belly of the Beast.”

In the ep, “Mike fights to prevent Kyle from following in his footsteps and confronts the demons of his past. Hobbs makes a crucial decision.”

Following the episode’s release, Jeremy shared why [spoiler] had to die at the hands of [spoiler].

In the episode, Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley) kills Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), and Jeremy told EW that it was important that Kyle be the one to do it and Mike, as it was an act of retribution for killing his wife.

“That’s one way to sort of… not really protect, but help forge a path for healing because of what [Merle] did,” he said. “There was no other pathway.”

“The beautiful end of it all is at least they [Mike and Kyle] have each other,” Jeremy added. “That was something I really had to fight for [at] the end of this show. It was very, very, very important to at least give the audience that. Give them something good.”

“The beautiful part for us is the release of that toxic character and then the two brothers falling into each other — and at least they have each other through it all. So that’s some kind of hope, right?” he shared.
