Inih Effiong departs club by mutual consent

0

Woking Football Club can confirm that striker Inih Effiong has left the club by mutual consent.

Inih played just 188 minutes of football this season, with his singular goal coming against Lingfield FC in the Surrey Senior Cup. That takes his final tally to 108 games for the club, scoring 31 goals.

Inih’s first spell with the Cards came when he was signed by Anthony Limbrick after departing Barrow in the summer of 2017. He had previously played for St Albans, Boreham Wood and Biggleswade Town, the latter of which was where he scored 39 goals in 68 games and attracted National League attention.

Following a successful half-season with the Cards where he scored ten goals in all competitions, Inih joined Scottish Premiership side Ross County in January 2018, making three appearances before leaving Scotland in the summer to return back to England.

Inih then re-joined the Cards in May 2021, signing for then manager Alan Dowson, scoring 13 times in 42 appearances before choosing to join rivals Aldershot Town. His third and final spell came in December 2024, as he went on to score a further eight goals.

Over the course of his three spells for the club, he has provided important moments for the Cards, and his dedication and determination will always be appreciated.

Director of Football Jody Brown commented:

“It’s been a difficult situation, and one which we can all learn from.”

“Inih was told in the summer that he wasn’t part of the plans, and that cannot have been easy, to play all of the pre season games knowing that he was facing a real challenge to be part of it come the opening day.”

“There’s been lots of speculation around the reasons for his absence from matchday squads, and they should be regarded as nothing more than that.”

“Given this situation we allowed Inih to get some necessary, but not urgent minor surgery to his knee. It’s now a sensible time to come to a mutual agreement, giving the player a chance to get fit and secure his next opportunity and ultimately save our club a significant amount of money.”

“Inih returned to Woking at a time of need. Scored big goals against Altrincham and Maidenhead, following it up with a big performance at Aldershot to pull us away from trouble, he also scored two massive goals against Oxford City in the Trophy that almost took us to Wembley. Let’s remember it that way, rather than how it ended.”

“We wish him and his family a bright future.”

Everyone at Woking Football Club wishes Inih all the best in his future endeavours, and thanks him for his service spanning over two and a half years.
