Bangladesh star player in trouble, faces sexual assault charges after alleged marriage promise
A big trouble occurs for star Bangladesh ‘A’ player fast-bowling all-rounder, Tofael Ahmed Raihan. A woman has accused Raihan of sexual assault after promising to marry her. A charge sheet has also been filed against the Bangladeshi cricketer in this case.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the woman filed a complaint at the Gulshan Police Station on August 1st, reporting repeated incidents of sexual violence. According to the investigating officer at Gulshan Police Station, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Samiul Islam, the charge sheet has been filed under sections of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to the charge sheet, Tofael first contacted the woman on Facebook in January of this year. They had regular conversations on Messenger, which later developed into a romantic relationship. The woman initially resisted, but agreed after Tofael assured her that he wanted to marry her.
According to the complainant, on January 31, Tofael allegedly took the woman to a hotel in Gulshan, introduced her as his wife, and then allegedly had sexual relations with her without her consent, again promising that he would marry her soon.
However, the Bangladeshi cricketer later distanced himself from the woman and assaulted her on several occasions. When the woman pressed for marriage, he refused. Following this, the woman filed a case at Gulshan Police Station on August 1.
On September 24, the High Court granted Tofael six weeks of anticipatory bail and directed him to surrender before the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal before the bail expired. However, he did not comply with the court’s order. Tofael, a regular member of the Bangladesh ‘A’ team, even traveled to Hong Kong to play in a six-a-side tournament for another national team after obtaining anticipatory bail.
