Alex Cora Provides Update On Red Sox’s Offseason Plans After Big Trades

The Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a busy start this offseason, as they have already swung a pair of major trades to shore up their starting rotation. And according to manager Alex Cora, it sounds like there are still a lot of moves left to be made.

In November, Boston swung its first big trade of the offseason when it acquired Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals. Just a couple of weeks later, the Sox brought another starter to town when they acquired Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While the pitching staff has been reinforced, the Red Sox could use some help in their lineup, and rumors are linking them to just about every big name available. That’s good news in Cora’s eyes, because it highlights just how many different paths Boston could take over the next few months.

“We can go in different ways,” Cora said on MLB Network. “The cool thing is that we’ve got a lot of young players that are really, really good, starting with Roman (Anthony), so just stay the course.”

Whether it be on the trade market or in free agency, the Sox are expected to make some serious moves to improve their lineup. A reunion with Alex Bregman isn’t out of the cards, and guys like Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber continue to be heavily linked to Boston.

So while the team has been busy early in the offseason, it seems like that activity may just be the tip of the iceberg. As a result, it will be worth keeping an eye on the Red Sox, as they could continue to be quite busy in the coming weeks.
