Is Callum Turner the Next James Bond?

0

A new name has emerged in the hunt for the next James Bond: Callum Turner, perhaps most famous as the man who played Eddie Redmayne's brother in all three Fantastic Beasts films. But is the 35-year-old, and fiancé of singer Dua Lipa, really the next 007? Let's break down where this rumor comes from and just how viable it might be.

Here's what to know about Callum Turner as, hypothetically, the next James Bond actor.

Why Callum Turner is Suddenly Rumored For James Bond

Turner's name has suddenly been linked as a potential new Bond for the 26th official film, currently in preproduction, from director Denis Villeneuve and writer Steven Knight. But why Turner all of a sudden? The truth is, this rumor comes not from an inside source, but instead, from betting averages from bookies and oddmakers. This means, from an outside, objective standpoint, people betting on the next Bond have a higher chance of being right if they choose Turner. But this is a situation of the tail wagging the dog; we don't have any good intel from the entertainment industry that this is real.

At 35, Turner is certainly the right age to play a new version of James Bond, in an utterly rebooted continuity. His age and overall vibe would also fit with a rumored historical take on Bond, which would bring the character back to the 1950s.

Turner has a solid film career, which includes the aforementioned Fantastic Beasts films, as well as the critically acclaimed 2023 film, The Boys in the Boat. That said, he's not hyper-recongnizable, like rumored future Bonds like Aaron-Taylor Johnson or Jacob Elordi. In a sense, he's the kind of actor who could be perfect: experienced, but not a household name. In short, Turner would fit the bill for a "fresh face," which is what Villeneuve is reportedly looking for.

There's no concrete evidence that Turner will play Bond. But, if he does, maybe, just maybe, we could get Dua Lipa to do the next Bond theme song.
