‘First over to your best bowler…’: Indian legend slams team decision to not bowl Jasprit Bumrah in initial overs vs SA
Indian cricket team is currently hosting a Test series against World Test Champions (WTC) 2025 victor South Africa, with the hosts losing the first game by 30 runs at the Eden Gardens. The Shubman Gill-led side posted 189 runs in the 1st innings, but could only score 93 before getting wrapped up.
India succumbed to a 30-run defeat in the opening Test at Eden Gardens on Sunday, and not handing the ball to lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah to start the third day’s play on a challenging surface was “questionable“, said the legendary Anil Kumble.
“A target of 123 was a bit too much. When the day started, South Africa were 63 for 7 and that was the lead. Temba Bavuma was still there. But having spread-out fields and not giving the first over to your best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, was questionable. All three wickets that fell were to the fast bowlers,” Kumble said on JioHotstar.
With the first Test of the series coming to a conclusion, the Proteas will play their next game against India on November 22 at Guwahati. The hosts will aim to level the series, whereas the visitors will aim to gain a 2-0 lead and clean-sweep the series. The red-ball series is going to be followed by a 3-match ODI and 5 match T20I series.
