Marin election victors solidify leads in new count

0

All of Marin’s qualified ballots have been counted in the Nov. 4 special election, adding slight increases in margins of victory.

Another 2,560 ballots were added to the count, bringing the number of ballots cast in Marin to 118,236, or 68% of registered voters, the Election Department reported Friday.

Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona said all that remains are 1,415 ballots pending review because of missing signatures or signatures that don’t match those on file. Voters have until Nov. 30 to submit a form to correct the problem.

The no vote on recalling Fairfax Mayor Lisel Blash and Vice Mayor Stephanie Hellman grew a little larger, as it did following the previous two updates.

As of Friday, 55.68% of the vote opposed recalling Blash and 55.06% opposed recalling Hellman. A simple majority in favor was required for the recalls to succeed.

The margins of victory for both Measure J, which would rezone a dozen parcels in Sausalito for apartment buildings, and Measure K, which would rezone 2 acres of city land at MLK Park’s southwestern edge for a 50-apartment complex for low-income seniors, also grew somewhat larger.

The yes vote for Measure J now accounts for 75.43% of the vote. The yes vote for Measure K is now 55.61% of the vote.

A manual tally is set to start at 10 a.m. Monday. It is open to the public. The deadline to certify the election is Dec. 2.
