New York village no longer accepting email and phone complaints after being inundated online
A village in the New York City suburbs is no longer taking complaints electronically after town officials say they’ve been besieged by online grievances. Islandia on Long Island now requires complaints be submitted in-person. The new policy, which was adopted last month, even prevents residents from using its online portal for complaints, though a spokesperson says the village will also accept complaints sent via certified or registered mail. Mayor Allan Dorman has said the policy was necessary after the village was inundated by unfounded gripes. Village officials say they’ve tried to block problem email accounts but to no avail.
