North Carolina G Seth Trimble to undergo surgery after practice injury

0

North Carolina team captain Seth Trimble, who just played a key role in the Tar Heels' win over No. 19 Kansas on Friday, will be sidelined after breaking a bone in his left forearm during a practice session on Sunday.

Trimble, a four-year senior guard, will undergo surgery this week, according to the school. A timetable for his return will be better known after the procedure.

"So sad for Seth," UNC coach Hubert Davis said in a statement.

"He's such a great kid and teammate and has worked so hard for his senior year. He loves being a Tar Heel, and we love him. The good news is he will be back at some point this year, and I know he will continue to be a great leader for us until he can get back in the lineup."

The 6-foot-3 Wisconsin native scored 17 points and added eight rebounds in the No. 25 North Carolina's come-from-behind 87-74 victory over the Jayhawks in Chapel Hill.

Trimble played in 68 games, but started only three, in his first two seasons at UNC. But he stayed the course and earned a starting role last year, averaging 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Tar Heels advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Trimble scored 19 points in a 92-89 loss to then No. 1 Kansas on Nov. 8, 2024.

He is averaging 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 30.0 minutes in two games this season.

North Carolina (2-0) will host Radford (2-0) on Nov. 11, the third game of a season-opening five-game homestand.
