Sports briefs: Marin Academy finishes second at Division II championship
The Marin Academy girls golf team carded a 382 to place second at the North Coast Section Division II Championship at Baywood Country Club in Arcata on Monday.
Stephanie Zola led the way for the Wildcats with a 91, followed by Elsa Anderson with a 94. Both of those scores were good enough to qualify Zola and Anderson individually for the North Coast Section D-I Championship next Monday at Windsor Golf Club.
Redwood and San Marin already qualified for next week’s D-I championship following their results from last week’s MCAL championship at Indian Valley.
Marin Catholic’s Lexi Ferguson, who posted the best score of any Marin golfer on Monday, also qualified after shooting an 83 to finish in a tie for fourth place. Branson’s Sidney Kawahara carded an 89 to finish in a three-way tie for eighth place, also qualifying for the D-I championship as one of the top 18 individual finishers.
MA finished 24 strokes behind first-place Cardinal Newman and 12 strokes ahead of third-place Healdsburg. Isabel Acosta shot a 97 for the Wildcats while Sterling Colpitts carded a 100.
Branson shot 416 as a team but Kawahara was the only Bull to break 100. Adriana Livengood turned in the second best score for MC with a 98. San Domenico’s Mila Dawson, competing as an individual, carded a 98.
