Cargo Plane Skids Off Hong Kong Runway Into Sea, Killing Two

At least two people were killed when a cargo plane arriving from Dubai skidded off Hong Kong International Airport’s runway into the sea, officials said Monday.

A cargo plane arriving from Dubai skidded off the runway at Hong Kong International Airport early Monday, partially plunging into the sea, authorities said.

According to Reuters, all four crew members aboard the aircraft survived the crash. However, two ground workers near the runway were killed after reportedly being struck during the accident.

The Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong confirmed the incident and said it has been reported to the Air Accident Investigation Authority for a full inquiry. Initial assessments are underway to determine the cause of the crash.

Airport authorities said the northern runway, where the accident occurred, has been temporarily closed while the southern and central runways remain operational to handle incoming and outgoing flights.

Emergency crews and divers were deployed immediately to recover debris and assist in cleanup operations, as parts of the aircraft were found submerged near the shoreline.

The airport management expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said it is cooperating closely with investigators to ensure flight safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Hong Kong International Airport, one of Asia’s busiest air cargo hubs, has faced weather-related challenges in recent weeks, though officials have not yet linked the accident to adverse conditions.
