'I should shut up': Dem prods GOP lawmaker to continue 'self-destructive' attack on voters

"I should shut up," Democratic consultant Paul Begala said as a Republican lawmaker proceeded to give Democrats what Begala said could be between 2-5 seats in the House next year.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican from New York, appeared on CNN alongside Begala on Sunday. Begala is best known for being an adviser to then-President Bill Clinton.

The topic of the recent "No Kings" protests came up, and Begala pointed out that, in his own political view, Republicans are digging their own graves when they attack those who participated.

"When you people attack those folks, all you're doing is setting yourselves up for a landslide" loss, he said. "Believe me, I watched my party do it in 2009."

Malliotakis went on to try to connect the protesters with "communists," leading Begala to say, "Each of those attacks is another 2-5 seats in the House. Keep going! I should shut up."

Begala added, "It's self destructive."
