Pakistan Confirms Airstrikes on Kabul and Kandahar

0

Pakistan confirmed on Wednesday it carried out airstrikes on Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) positions in Kabul and Kandahar, escalating cross-border tensions with Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s security officials confirmed on Wednesday that their forces had carried out airstrikes on Taliban and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) positions inside Afghanistan’s Kabul and Kandahar provinces.

According to Pakistan’s state television, the operations targeted senior TTP members and Taliban fighters. It reported that an unmanned drone struck what was described as the “leadership center” of the Pakistani Taliban in Kabul.

The report, quoting security sources, said the operations were “successful” and resulted in significant damage to militant infrastructure. Pakistani authorities have yet to release details about the casualties or the precise locations of the strikes.

Taliban officials, however, denied the claim of militant strikes in Kabul, saying the explosions heard in parts of the capital were caused by a fuel tanker fire. They also acknowledged airstrikes in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district, where they said 12 civilians were killed.

According to some sources, Pakistan’s airstrikes hit the Fourth and Eighth Taliban Brigades as well as the Fifth Border Corps in Kandahar, reportedly killing between 15 and 20 Taliban fighters.

The strikes mark a sharp escalation in cross-border tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, coming amid repeated Pakistani accusations that the Taliban harbor TTP militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan.

Observers warn that the growing hostilities could further destabilize the already fragile border region, with potential repercussions for regional security and humanitarian conditions in southern Afghanistan.
