With fireworks on, off the field, Santa Teresa outlasts Live Oak in 84-point league-opener bonanza

0

MORGAN HILL — Live Oak hosted Santa Teresa for its homecoming football game Saturday night in Morgan Hill, and the Acorns put on their traditional halftime fireworks show, with over four minutes of pyrotechnics illuminating the night sky.

It was no match for what the Acorns and the Saints put together on the field, a high-scoring slugfest that made every defensive stop important.

In the end, Santa Teresa, which didn’t punt all night long, came through with a final stand inside its own 10-yard line, sealing a 49-35 win that confirmed one thing for both coaches:

They can light up the scoreboard with the best of them.

“You saw two pretty good football teams tonight,” said Santa Teresa coach Steve Papin.

The Saints (6-0, 1-0) have looked like the class of the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mt. Hamilton Division in the early going, and they bolstered their case with the victory over the previously undefeated Acorns (5-1, 0-1). Santa Teresa’s offense has so many talented players, Papin admitted it can be a struggle to get them to share the ball at times.

“It’s awesome when you feel every time we get the ball, we’re gonna score,” he said.
