Madelaine Petsch Recalls Being Terrified By Original 'The Strangers' Movie

The Strangers: Chapter 2 star Madelaine Petsch recalls being terrified by the original 2008 home invasion thriller.

The 31-year-old actress recently told People her vivid recollection of the first time she watched Bryan Bertino‘s film starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, which has gone on to spawn a sequel and now a whole new trilogy.

She shares, “I was home alone and my brother thought it’d be funny to tell me to watch that movie. So I did, and I was quite young. It came out in 2008. I was like 15 when I watched it.”

“My parents had just started leaving me home alone, and I watched that film and it really stuck with me. I mean, obviously, it’s terrifying. I’m home alone and my parents have these giant glass windows in the living room, and I was like, ‘I’m going to be murdered by the man in the mask tonight,’” the Riverdale alum recounts.

Since then, Madelaine has gone on to star in several horror movies. Apart from The Strangers trilogy, she’s been in Polaroid, The Hive, and Sightless. Riverdale had plenty of horror movie moments, too.

“I’ve seen so many horror films that feel supernatural or otherworldly, so you can’t really liken them to your own life. But with The Strangers, they’re just people with masks on who want to kill, and I think that’s what makes it so terrifying,” she adds.

The Strangers: Chapter 2 is still playing in theaters and Chapter 3 is expected out next year.
