Dog Food Recalled in 4 States Due to Salmonella Risk

0

A Minnesota-based pet food company has recalled two different sizes of its frozen dog food product over concerns regarding Salmonella.

Raw Bistro Pet Fare of Cannon Falls, Minnesota announced the voluntary recall of its frozen Grass-Fed Beef Entree on Thursday. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the decision in a press release Friday.

"Salmonella can affect animals eating contaminated products and poses a risk to humans from handling such products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after contact with the food or any surfaces exposed to it," the FDA press release says.

Salmonella infection can manifest in pets as lethargy, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and fever, among other symptoms.

"If your pet has consumed the recalled product and shows these symptoms, contact your veterinarian," the FDA said.

Humans exhibit many of the same signs of Salmonella poisoning, with more severe cases possibly showing "arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms."

What to know

The recalled products were sold directly to consumers and to select distributors between Sept. 1 and Sept. 17. The distributors are in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota.

The packages of Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée to look for are:

  • Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen – 3 lb bags (UPC 858833002247) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.
  • Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Bulk, Frozen – 18 lb cases (UPC 858833002629) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.

The recall was initiated after an FDA-collected sample from a distributor tested positive for Salmonella
