Shubman Gill surpasses both Kohli and Rohit, Secures List of record to his name with Test century vs WI

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill’s impressive form continues. Following the England series, his bat has been in full swing in the Test series against the West Indies. Shubman scored a century in the second Test in Delhi. He shattered several records with this innings. For the record, Gill played an unbeaten innings of 129 runs.

Shubman Gill has scored five centuries in a calendar year, equaling Indian legend Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli is the only batsman other than Gill to have scored five centuries in a calendar year as captain. He scored five centuries each in 2017 and 2018.

Shubman Gill has now also become the batter with the most centuries for India in the history of the World Test Championship. He also became the first Indian to score 10 centuries in the World Test Championship, surpassing Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who had nine centuries.

This is Shubman Gill’s fifth Test century in 12 innings as captain. Only Alastair Cook (9 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) have scored five centuries faster than Gill’s 12. Shubman Gill became the third fastest player to reach five centuries as a captain.

Shubman Gill has now become the leading run-scorer for India in World Test Championship history, surpassing Rishabh Pant who has 2731 runs as of now. Gill now has 2826 runs (71 innings).
