Winterhawks thump Hurricanes 9-4 in Western Hockey League action

LETHBRIDGE - Nathan Brown and Nathan Free each scored two goals as the Portland Winterhawks crushed the Lethbridge Hurricanes 9-4 in Western Hockey League action on Friday.

Alex Weiermair, Carter Sotheran, Kayd Ruedig, Sam Spehar and Finn Spehar provided the rest of the offence for Portland (3-3-0), which scored four goals in each of the second and third periods.

Ondrej Stebeták made 21 saves in the win.

Logan Wormald, with two goals, Hudson Kibblewhite and Nathan Maloney replied for Lethbridge (2-6-0), which held a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Koen Cleaver stopped 28 of 37 shots.

WARRIORS 6 REBELS 4

RED DEER, Alta. -- Lynden Lakovic scored twice in leading the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 6-4 win over the Red Deer Rebels.

Casey Brown, Riley Thorpe, Kash Andresen and Steven Steranka also contributed to the scoring for Moose Jaw (4-2-1), turned a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 game within the second period.  

Talon Brigley, Matthew Gard, Jaxon Fuder and Beckett Hamilton replied for Red Deer (1-6-0).

RAIDERS 5 BLAZERS 2 

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. -- Riley Boychuk had a goal and an assist as the Prince Albert Raiders scored three times in under five minutes to open the game en route to a 5-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers.

Evan Smith, Justice Christensen and Max Heise scored within the first 4:50 of the contest, with Boychuk scoring in the second period and Jackson Kostiuk adding an empty-netter in the third for Prince Albert (6-0-1).

Nathan Behm and Owen Cooper scored for Kamloops (3-3-0).
