Air India's midair emergency sparks new alarm over the safety of the Boeing Dreamliner

India's leading body of pilots is asking the country’s civil aviation regulator to investigate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet for electrical issues after one of the planes abruptly deployed an emergency power system midair over the weekend. The Federation of Indian Pilots says the regulator should ascertain why the device, normally used when engines, electricals or hydraulic systems fail, was deployed unexpectedly on Saturday moments before the Air India flight from Amritsar to Birmingham landed safely. The incident comes months after an Air India Boeing 787 plane crashed in Ahmedabad, killing 260 people, with early reports pointing to electrical failure.
