Police involved in a shooting in Brooklyn: NYPD

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Police fatally shot a man they said was holding a gun in Brooklyn Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a domestic call near 86th Street and Avenue B around 9 a.m., according to the NYPD. A woman told police that a man she was attempting to get a restraining order against was harassing her.

Police approached a man "who matched the [911 caller's] description" as he was leaving the woman's building, and he fled, according to Assistant Chief Frank Giordano.

The officers chased the 28-year-old man for just over a block and ordered him to drop the gun that was in his hand, Giordano said.

Then, officers shot him one time in the chest and took him to an area hospital in an NYPD patrol car. The man was declared dead at the hospital shortly after. Police said a loaded revolver was found at the scene.

"The incident happened very quickly, [a] six-minute time frame from when we arrived to when we actually engaged the subject," Giordano said. "He was placed into handcuffs, there was an ambulance called, we rendered aid, and we subsequently made that decision to transport him by patrol car to the hospital."

Giordano said there are two previous reports of domestic incidents between this man and woman, but the relationship between the two was not immediately known.
