Award-Winning Chef's Restaurant Closing This Fall
After just four years in business, a New York City restaurant run by an award-winning chef is preparing to close its doors.
Lodi, which was opened by chef Ignacio Mattos in 2021, will shut down "on or about October 30," according to a statement from Mattos that's published by Melissa McCart of Eater.
As is the case with many restaurants that close their doors, Lodi is ending operations for economic reasons, Mattos revealed.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of Lodi’s staff and support from our guests and the community,” Mattos said. “We are saddened that economic events drove this closing. It has been an honor to serve our wonderful guests and the community over these years.”
Lodi serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and "draws inspiration from Italian aperitivo culture and the Art Deco architecture of the restaurant’s surroundings," the restaurant's website says.
"Breakfast may feature soft boiled eggs and a cappuccino while lunch might call for a vitello tonnato and a limonata before the evening gives way to spritzes and plates of antipasti," Lodi adds.
The Uruguayan-born Mattos is the chef and founder of Mattos Hospitality, which also owns New York restaurants such as Estela and Altro Paradiso.
Estela was Mattos' first restaurant and earned a Michelin Star, an honor awarded to restaurants that offer outstanding cooking.
Estela was also ranked No. 11 in the New York Times' list of the 100-best New York City restaurants of 2024. Lodi came in at No. 64 on the same list.
Once closed, Lodi will be the second Mattos establishment to close in New York City. Flora Bar, which was opened in 2017, closed in 2021.
